Is there a limit to the number of files that can be attached to File-type Data Items and Open Chat posts?

Also, is there any restriction on the file formats that can be attached?

  There is no limit to the number of files or attachment file formats that can be uploaded in an Open Chat post.

  As for file size, the maximum total size of files that can be uploaded at one time is 100MB.

  By the way, if you attach an image file (jpg/ png/ gif), it will be displayed as a thumbnail.
